McDreamy to Mc Steamy:
Shani: McSteamy, He put it on her.
Bridget: McDreamy. You’d think with a vampire king it’d be more McSteamy, but for me, this felt more like McDreamy she finds her husband who it turns out has a heart of gold and mushy center.
Classy to Nasty:
Pretty Vanilla. A bit of biting off or ripping off garments and marathon sexing, but mostly vanilla.

Quick Guide Review of the Book and Notes
Book Title: Dark Lover
Author: J.R. Ward
Audio Narrator: Jim Frangione
Part of a Series: Yes - Black Dagger Brotherhood
Genre: Supernatural Romance
Synopsis:
In the shadows of the night in Caldwell, New York, there's a deadly turf war going on between vampires and their slayers. There exists a secret band of brothers like no other-six vampire warriors, defenders of their race. Yet none of them relishes killing more than Wrath, the leader of The Black Dagger Brotherhood.
The only purebred vampire left on earth, Wrath has a score to settle with the slayers who murdered his parents centuries ago. But, when one of his most trusted fighters is killed-leaving his half-breed daughter unaware of his existence or her fate-Wrath must usher her into the world of the undead-a world of sensuality beyond her wildest dreams.
Heroine Rating: Beth
Shani: 🍑🍑🍑🍑 | I like Beth. Beth is strong and independent. I’m here for her.
Bridget: 🍑🍑🍑🍑 | I like Beth. I think she sees past the rough exterior and is incredibly brave to follow her heart into the unknown even when it is a kinda crazy thing to do. I also liked that she actually fights off her attackers and protects Wrath when he is injured.
Hero Rating: Wrath
Shani: 🍆🍆🍆 He didn’t stay an ass. He tried but gave it up so I’m with him. Not my favorite brother, but a good start.
Bridget: 🍆🍆🍆.5 | Wrath is not my favorite brother. I think it obviously makes sense to start with him since he is king, but I don’t love him. He grew on me during the series as you find out more about his story and see him “grow up”, but in this book, he’s not my favorite thing in the world.
A Skimmers Guide to the Cookies and the Nookie:
Audio: Chapter 5
Favorite Line in the Book:
Shani:
“And thanks for sending your friend over last night, although I have to admit he scared the hell outta me at first…the one who looks like some kind of goth nightmare…”
Bridget:
“I'm going to talk to her." "And how's that going to go? You're just going to walk up to her and say, 'Hey, I know you've never seen me before, but I'm your dad. Oh, and guess what? You've won the evolutionary lottery: You're a vampire. Let's go to Disneyland!”
Favorite Review:
Shani’s from Audible:
The Wrong Reader .
An affected American Accent? Why? Wrong country, wrong class, wrong century. The story began well but the accent was too much of an anachronism.
Bridget’s from Goodreads:
Annie (Under the Covers Book Blog) rated it 5 stars…
Long review then this sums it up.
This. Freaking. Book.
► It's PNR.
► It's not STOOPID.
► It's not RAPEY.
► It doesn't promote DEMEANING behaviour towards women.
► It's a BLOODY MIRACLE.
Cover Art:
Shani: I like that Beth is shown mostly and who doesn’t love a good bite.
Bridget: I think the original cover was a bit confusing if you think about after-the-fact since the woman is biting the man, but it is so sexy and the colors are amazing. The name of the book also works. I do like the older color washes of each book for each brother. The new cover has manly muscles and a black dagger. Feels a little on the nose. But he looks hot!
Worth the Read?
Shani: YES!
Bridget: YES! If only to set up the brotherhood and the amazing books that are coming next!
