Quick Guide Review of the Book and Notes
Book Title: The Duke and I
Author: Julia Quinn
Audio Narrator: Rosalyn Landor is phenomenal
Part of a Series: Yes, Book #1 of the Bridgertons
Genre: Historical Romance
Cover Art:
Shani: The cover art was alright it looks like a dukal estate.
Bridget: White glove with a card with the title written. Knew it was historical. Got the vibe. Was fine with it. Not sure I would have picked it off a shelf. Then again, historically I don’t choose historicals ;)
Synopsis: By all accounts, Simon Basset is on the verge of proposing to his best friend’s sister, the lovely—and almost-on-the-shelf—Daphne Bridgerton. But the two of them know the truth—it’s all an elaborate plan to keep Simon free from marriage-minded society mothers. And as for Daphne, surely she will attract some worthy suitors now that it seems a duke has declared her desirable.
But as Daphne waltzes across ballroom after ballroom with Simon, it’s hard to remember that their courtship is a complete sham. Maybe it’s his devilish smile, certainly, it’s the way his eyes seem to burn every time he looks at her… but somehow Daphne is falling for the dashing duke… for real! And now she must do the impossible and convince the handsome rogue that their clever little scheme deserves a slight alteration and that nothing makes quite as much sense as falling in love…
Heroine Rating: Daphne
Shani: 🍑🍑🍑🍑 Funny, quirky, loved the family
Bridget: 🍑🍑🍑🍑 I mean Daphne was desperate enough to steal his seed, which was really not OK. but aside from that, I liked her character a lot. Lots of pluck, lots of quips, loved her family, brought out the joy in him.
Hero Rating: Simon
Shani: 🍆🍆🍆 Didn’t like that he lied to Daphne about being infertile
Bridget: 🍆🍆🍆 He lied, which sucks, then didn’t go after her, which sucks too!

Favorite Review:
Bridget & Shani’s from Goodreads:
Stacia (the 2010 club) rated it 3 stars
"Save your pathetic words," Anthony spat. "I'll see you at dawn."
Please let there be a duel. Pleeeeaaasssse let there be a duel.
One sec, flipping the page. *pause* Damn...no duel.
"I've always known that I wasn't the sort of woman men dream of, but I never thought anyone would prefer death to marriage with me."
3.5 stars. I would have definitely gone for a solid 4 star had there been a duel. What a missed opportunity that was! There are more brothers in this family; it wouldn't have been a big deal to off one of them.
So, I am no longer a Quinn virgin. The seduction is complete. Gonna take a sec and stub out this "we made it official" cigarette so I can write my review.
Worth the Read?
Shani: Yes! Love the Bridgertons and the books keep getting better.
Bridget: I liked this. I would recommend it to people… I can see why her stealing his seed upset people! And I liked Colin and some of the other siblings, so I’d be down to hang with the fam some more in future books.
