Book Review at a Glance

Worth the Read?

Shani: ⭐⭐⭐

Bridget: ⭐⭐⭐

Heroine Rating:

Shani: 🍑🍑🍑 because she controlled her destiny

Bridget: 🍑🍑🍑🍑 Oooo I was on the fence for her. Cause she was bratty and whiney at times, but also fun, and pushing them, and asking for Stranger to come back even when she knew King would be mad. I personally think she is bat shit crazy for getting a brand, but I liked her friendship with Angel. I think I’ll settle on 4 for her.

Hero Rating: King

Shani: 🍆🍆 because he bitched out and died.

Bridget: 🍆🍆 What a roller coaster with him. Jeez. The man can fuck and control and dirty talk. However, he wasn’t honest with her about a lot of things (including digging in her past, killing her abuser and having terminal cancer), and that left a lot of fucked up “I’m doing all this for you without you choosing” vibes. Plus her actually injured her after Stranger even said, that is enough… sooo 2 stars. But also like 3 maybe in my mind? Or does that make him a 4 star because he’s a dark romance lead?!

Hero Rating: Stranger (Felix)

Shani: 🍆🍆🍆 Stranger? Danger? McLeftovers

Bridget: 🍆🍆🍆 Definitely some of the hottest scenes and hottest dirty talk in the book. But since he didn’t come into the story until halfway through and then basically tried to break up the other characters it was harder to connect with him. He felt more like a device for King to play with her with, versus a fully fleshed character. And after he brought her home, until the crazy bathtub sex scene. . I kinda thought it was going to go a different way until the bottle glass incident. I mean for the dirty talk 5 stars… but since I didn’t get a ton to work with, more like 3 or 4.

McDreamy to Mc Steamy:

Bridget: McChokeaBitch

Classy to Nasty: nasty, kinky, not bdsm because there were no safe words or meeting of the minds.

Romance at a Glance Reviews Pet by Isabella Starling

The title, cover, and description of this book got us! We were super excited to dip into this book and were so shocked when the second male MC showed up halfway through the book!

This week we get into story structure, why stuffing too many plots in doesn't work, and how we felt hoodwinked by the ending. Plus, some steamy scenes, how to make a great, and sexy entrance, and our feelings on MCs having sex with someone else on the page.

Quick Guide Review of the Book and Notes

Book Title: Pet

Author: Isabella Starling

Narrator/ Available in audio: Ava Erickson, C. J. Mission, Joe Arden

Part of a Series: No is it a standalone. Though Peep Show has same cover style.

Genre: Dark Romance

Cover Art: I thought the cover art was hot. She’s in lingerie between the two of them. I liked the neon lights “sign” of the title as well.

Synopsis: Sapphire is 18 and has distanced herself from her parents and her whole old life. She meets King at a catering job and is immediately drawn to him. And he’s drawn to her, equal parts wanting to take care of her, and hurt her. They start a dizziness master, submissive relationship. With him obsessed with her past abuse, and her pushing his buttons to get punished, it all seems to be going well until she meets Stranger at the urging of King. What will she do when she wants them both?

Favorite Line in the Book

Shani:

“Pull out don’t come.“ No. I’m not protected.”

I don’t give a fuck. - King to Pet

Bridget’s sexy corner:

Would you let him fuck you in the ladies’ room?” I growled in her ear, and she put a hand over mine and squeezed my fingers. “Would you let him come in your ass in there, and plug it up? Would you let him walk you back out here with no panties on, hoping your ass doesn’t leak around the plug and trickle down your long legs?” “Please,” she wheezed. She was already so close. Such a good girl. “Would you let him make you come to me, and ask me back to your apartment, fuck you like a little cumtoy?” I went on. “Would you say it in front of anyone here with cum in your ass and your pussy dripping down your legs?” - Stranger to Pet

This book left me confused, frustrated and yes, even angry.

I enjoyed the story just fine, right up until Stranger came into the picture. From that point onwards, the story just went downhill for me. And don't even get me started on the ending which is a big fuckup. I felt let down and even somewhat cheated because I spent time invested on Pet and King only to have my head (and feelings!) screwed in every direction.

Bridget:

Jessa rated it 2 stars

The bottle scene did me in.
