Romance at a Glance Reviews Lover Enshrined by J.R. Ward

also know as Phury and Cormia’s book

also known as the book in which the Wizard in Phury’s mind makes an appearance and ruins said book

When you read a series as long as The Black Dagger Brotherhood, it is inevitable that you will come to a book that is harder to read and finish than the others.

That was Phury's book (and Cormia's) for us. We discuss how we did not enjoy the addition of Phury's Wizard in his head, the fact that their love story and HEA didn't feel justified because they spent so little time together in the book and why Phury's bonding scent took so long to come out.

As always we dip into the side plots:

  • Blay revealing he is in love with Quinn and their kiss

  • Z being kind of a dick to Phury about the saving him thing

  • Lash's murder by Quinn making him into John Matthew's Ahstrux Nohstrum

On Romance at a Glance, we discuss and review all genres of romance novels, as well as get into the nitty-gritty of real-life romance, relationships, and sex... while cracking each other up. Expect some spontaneous singing, funny anecdotes, honest reviews, and naughty language.

Quick Guide Review of the Book and Notes

Book Title: Lover Enshrined

Author: J.R. Ward

Audio Narrator: Jim Frangione

Part of a Series: Yes, Book 6 of the Black Dagger Brotherhood

Genre: Paranormal Romance

Synopsis: Fiercely loyal to the Black Dagger Brotherhood, Phury has sacrificed himself for the good of the race, becoming the male responsible for keeping the Brotherhood's bloodlines alive. As Primale of the Chosen, he is obligated to father the sons and daughters who will ensure that the traditions of the race survive, and that there are warriors to fight those who want all vampires extinguished.

As his first mate, the Chosen Cormia wants to win not only his body, but his heart for herself. She is drawn to the noble responsibility behind the emotionally scarred male. But Phury has never allowed himself to know pleasure or joy. As the war with the Lessening Society grows grim, tragedy looms over the Brotherhood's mansion, and Phury must decide between duty and love....

Heroine Rating: Cormia

Shani: 🍑🍑🍑🍑🍑 I felt like she was committed to her own self-growth. And the moment when she gets out of the pool naked in front of John Matthew, Quinn, and Blay and she doesn’t care that Phury is telling her to get dressed.

Bridget: 🍑🍑🍑 I wanna make sure you understand that I wanted to love her more than I did. I enjoyed her progression from sheltered to figuring out her passions including architecture, and I was happy that she stood up for herself, especially in the scene with John Matthew and Wrath after she and Phury had sex, but I still didn’t really connect with her.

Hero Rating: Phury

Shani: 🍆 - If I could give him a zero I would.

Bridget: 🍆 - I don’t love Phury at all. I thought the wizard was incredibly distracting and annoying and I overall felt like he and Cormia didn’t spend any time together in this book and their love story wasn’t justified to me.

McDreamy to Mc Steamy:

Shani: Mc-Wompwomp

Bridget: McDREARY

Classy to Nasty:

Vanilla and very sparing. All side plot scenes were way steamier ( John Matthew and Xhex, and Blay and Quinn)

Favorite Review:

Shani’s from Audible:

Wendy - 1 star

Drugs make you stupid, you shouldn’t do them.

Bridget’s from Goodreads:

Jessica's Totally Over The Top Book Obsession rated it 2.5 stars

2.5 Really don't care for Phury Stars

Oh God where do I start with the hot mess that is Phury? This book is the one I like the least of all the books in this series and that's because I really don't care for Phury. Let me just say that I like Cormia but I don't really understand how she and Phury fell in love. He totally ignored her for like 6 months. When did they spend enough time together to fall in love? Phury is a total drug addict for 85% of the book. He spends almost the whole book doing drugs, buying drugs, and talking to an imaginary voice in his head that he called the wizard. And us readers had to deal with The wizards constant stupid, boring ass chatter for like 90% of the book.

Cover Art:

Shani: Same Same

Bridget: I always wish I knew more about the brother or female featured!

Worth the Read?

Shani: Get through this book to get to the next one. Even maybe just skimming of skipping all of the Phury and Cormia scenes and enjoying the side plots! Those are not to be missed.

Bridget: Agree with Shani completely. Side plots are a MUST in this book. I can live without Phury’s wizard completely. I did enjoy Cormia learning about her love of architecture and standing up for herself.
